AIM MyChron Light MCL
Now with split and lap times over 10 minutes
MyChron Light MCL is the worlds most popular lap timer. Lap timing is done via an IR-Kit (Infrared transmitter/beacon and receiver).
Because all AIM transmitters have the same IR signal, one is enough for all riders at the track. The range to the bike is from between 3 m up to 15 m in the standard mode, or up to 30 m in High-Power mode. It can be powered from either a 9v block, 8 small batteries or an external 12v battery (extra). As the rider passes the transmitter, they have their lap times displayed.
Up to 9 split times can be taken per lap. Laptimes over 10 minutes can also be handled.
The MCL version has a resetable usage counter and can store up to 480 lap and split times.
Models:
- MCL with IR Transmitter and Receiver M111099 € 240,-
- MCL with IR Receiver without Transmitter M111098 €204,-
My opinion:
You can independantly record your own lap times with this lap timer. However, it is not compatible with most of the transponders used by track-day organisers or circuits, so if you are required to provide lap times in these circumstances, you may still need to rent or buy the additional transponder.
I can recommend this lap timer as it is very easy to use, and plenty of others have this type of timer, so there is a very high chance that if a transmitter is on the pitwall, it is one of these.
However, you should still buy the complete kit with transmitter. Its not much more expensive, and then you are sure that you will have a transmitter when you get to the track.
Remark on the subject of timing:
I would personally wait before buying an AMB Transponder. A new, independant system is being established which is not compatible with AMB.
